How Does Outside Temperature Affect Car Batteries?

Temperatures can take a toll on your car battery. Your goal is to prolong the battery life as much as possible. A car battery tends to last between 2-5 years. Lead acid batteries have proven to survive extreme weather climates more than lithium ion batteries. Test your battery to rule out any failure or issues.

The colder the climate, the slower the battery will run. Under freezing conditions the battery loses up to 60 percent of its strength and may stop functioning altogether. Getting your car started may take longer than usual.

Heat can damage your vehicle's battery as well. High temperatures speed up their corrosion process and reduce their life expectancy. You can add distilled water to help with cooling it down.
